On a night like this

32 Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. 34 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”
35 He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. 36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
Mark 14:32-36

It's 12:43 A.M...past midnight. I had Bible study earlier today and a good laugh with a few of my friends after (we followed her home). But now the house is silent, except for the dishwasher downstairs and the soft croaking of frogs? or crickets? outside.
Over two thousand years ago, on a night like this...the Lord prayed. He prayed because something was coming. Something so horrendous and terrible He asked that it would pass. Imagine it. Our Lord fell on the ground, troubled, and asked that this be taken from Him....despite this pleading, He uttered the words to His Father in Heaven, "not what I will, but what You will." He was going to face a sham trial, be beaten over and over again, scourged to the point no one would recognize Him, carry a heavy cross only to hang from it for all to see...
But there was a reason.
On a night like this, He prayed.
For you, for me...don't forget that.
